Depending on availability, logo design can take less than a day or more than a week to complete. You can see the latest estimate we have for each domain under your Configure tab.
Design breaks down into several key stages:
- Waiting for a designer
- Waiting for their first design
- Revisions
- Approval
- Final assets
1. Waiting for a designer
This is usually the slowest part, and the part which varies the most. You must wait for a logo designer to be free to work on your project.
At the time of writing (April 2020), Brandpa has 14 designers who must complete over 100 logo designs per day. Each designer is usually working on a handful of logos at once, and once they complete a logo they are allowed to accept more.
Logos are queued in the order they are requested, however this does not mean they will be completed in exactly that order. Each designer gets to choose which project they want to work on out of the top 10 in the queue. In practice, this can mean undesirable domains, or challenging briefs from a seller, can take longer to be accepted, as designers will be more reluctant to accept them.
To give you an estimate of how long you need to wait for a designer to become available, we consider the average number of logos our team completes each week as our “average speed”, and look at how far a given logo is from the top of the queue. We also pad the result slightly. This approach is broadly accurate, but it is important to note these are estimates and not guarantees.
2. Waiting for their first design
Once assigned, a designer has exactly 6 hours to submit their first design for your review. In practice, most designers are much faster.
The 6 hour limit is designed to prevent anyone from taking a logo and leaving it overnight or over a weekend. If no design is presented in this time, the logo is automatically returned to the queue for a new designer, at the highest priority.
3. Revisions
A logo can take up to 7 days in total to be designed. In practice this almost never happens – most logos are completed and agreed within a day, and if there is a delay it is mostly to allow sellers time to reply to the designer.
Like you, designers work around the world in different timezones. If one is not replying immediately, please bear in mind that they may be offline or asleep.
During the revisions phase you can make reasonable requests to modify the design that has been presented.
4. Approval
The seller must approve a design themselves within the 7 day time limit, using the interface provided.
If they fail to do so, the responsibility for approving the logo will be automatically transferred to Brandpa.
Sellers are emailed when they need to provide feedback, and will also see notifications displayed in the top-right corner of your Brandpa dashboard, after they log in.
5. Final assets
The designer must upload final vector assets, and Brandpa created 3D renders of those assets for our listing pages. This process typically takes less than half an hour.
What happens if a design is cancelled?
Cancelled designs go right back to the top of the queue. The designer who worked on them will not be able to attempt the project again.
